| This was the first incarnation of the whole Star Trek franchise. The first episode was called 'The Cage' with a Captain Christopher Pike at the helm. It didn't prove to be a winner in the ratings so they decided to start again from scratch. All the characters are changed except one, Mr Spock, the Vulcan. The female 'Number One' changed her hair and become Nurse Chapel in the revitalised series. She was later to become Mrs. Roddenberry in real life. Kirk's catch phrase 'Beam me up Scotty' was never said in the real-life series, it came from the cartoon series that followed in the 70's. The main enemy of the day were the Klingons, who looked surprisingly like humans. The series was famous for its cardboard sets amongst other things. Due to the popularity of the Star Wars Films, Paramount began producing Star Trek Films. |
