A comic, a film, a toy range and numerous cartoon versions, it will be most remembered for the cartoon series in the 1980's. Like the game Warcraft and Everquest, they are predominantly a fantasy story set on an alien world.
The back story to the series is that an astronaut from Earth called Marlena crash lands on the far off planet of Eternia. There she meets Randor, the prince to whom he marries.
She has two children, Adora and Adam. Adam goes onto become the main character in this series and Adora becomes She-Ra in a different series.
There was an attempt at turning the series into a film which failed miserably. It started Dolph Lundgren as the muscular hero. To cut costs of the production of the film, the storyline arced so that the principle characters came to Earth.
Like many other cartoon conversion to films, they changed one of the main character, Orko because they felt that the technology at the time wasn't good enough to provide for a realistic version.
There are rumours of a new more up to date version of the cartoon series but it has not yet been given the green light.
Some of the episodes are morallistic in their nature and at the end, Adam would give a moral. For example, one of the episodes was about Teela looking for her birth mother. The moral was that whats most important is that someone loves you and cares for you. |
