A cartoon series that is a mix of traditional animation and CGI to give a futuristic feel to it. Television series developed by Matt Groening of the Simpsons fame. It follows the adventures of Philip J. Fry, a pizza delivery boy as he is catapulted into far future, 1000 years to be precise. There he makes friends with a group of humans, robots and aliens. He manages to get a job as a delivery person traversing the stars. The opening title includes gags like you would come to expect to find in the Simpsons.
A lot has changed since the twentieth century, all the issues of today have been given a futuristic updating. They still exist but do not form as much of a problem as they do today. Household pets have changed because of global warming, no longer do you have cats and dogs, they've been replaced with owls and tamarins (monkeys). Politically, Earth has been unified under one government with a flag similar to the 'Stars and Stripes' except the Stars is now the world. Sounds familiar, sounds like Buck Rogers doesn't it? but with more light-heartedness.
After it was cancelled, it was bought back into a series of tv movies then spliced up again into a number of episodes. Those episodes became series 6. A new series was requested by the Comedy Channel and these are due out in mid-2010. |
