He was born and still lives in the Rutland area of Leicestershire with his wife and two children. He started by writing short stories with the first being sold to Fear magazine. His first novel published was Mindstar Rising about his Pyschic detective Greg Mandel. After another two, he turned to writing long stories starting with Night's Dawn trilogy, three huge stories which follow on from the other. He referred to that as the Confederation trilogy with 'Second Chance at Eden' being in the same storyline.

More recently he has created a different timeline kn own as the Commonwealth, where we have expanded from Earth and now live on one of many thousands of planets. People never die, they rejuvenate and live forever. The first story is about the rejuvenation process then about meeting non too friendly aliens on another planet.
