The alien films centre around the struggle of Lt Ellen Ripley as she battles creatures of immense strength and capability in varying numbers.
The original story had cast a man in the lead role but they changed that at the last moment.
In the first film, she had to deal with one alien, then many aliens in the second film then back to one alien in the third then back to many aliens in the fourth.
Her nightmare begins when the crew of the Nostromo are woken up during their hibernation journey home by a signal coming from a crashed ship on the planet LV-426.
During exploration of the craft, one of the crew is attacked by an alien creature that wraps itself round Kanes face.
Against Ripleys orders, the infected person is brought aboard the craft where the face-hugger is removed.
During dinner, Kane has a violent seizure culminating in the alien exploding from his stomach.
All the cast except Kane and the director knew it was going too happen. The scene was improvised and it worked.
The alien is eight foot tall with two mouths, one inside the other with a long tail.
It came a round partly as result of the Star Wars phenomena that was sweeping across the world.
Unlike Star Wars, these series of films were strictly for the adults.
A lot of people felt it had lost the way after the second film, they saw the studios were just trying to squeeze as much money out of the franchise as possible.
For years, there had been lots or rumours and talks about an 'Alien vs. Predator' film but nothing had ever come of it. What there had been were comics and games set in the Alien time frame.
When it finally came out, a lot of fans of the franchise were extremely disappointed.
The two films were set in the current, one in an archaelogical survey of a Pyramid in the Antartic, the second set in small town America.
There have been rumours of Alien 5 for a long time however nothing has come to fruition. The latest rumour of the fifth alien film will be
set before the events of the first Alien. The storyline could well be the finding of the Alien homeworld, picking up the eggs and everyone being killed. Not a very happy ending. One last thing, the film had the iconic catchline 'In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream'. |
